Adults Don't Let Your Kids Tell You How To Play Guitar
Those snotty teenagers, always thinking they know everything.
I have a fifteen year-old at home who wants to learn guitar, but insists, "my way" isn't "real guitar". Instead she wants me to pay for guitar lessons. For her!
Forget it kid. Learn to play in open-D like your old man.

Maybe you should let her play standard. After all it takes a very independent mind to want to go in a different direction like you have, (and I have). She's only 15 and may not be ready to be that independent. My 8 year old son plays standard tuning and is having a great time. Luckily his instructor doesn't make him learn "Pop Goes the Weasel." He's playing things like "Rock Me Baby", "Not Fade Away", and "Green Onions". Let her try guitar her way. If it works, that's great. If it becomes a drag, she'll come running back to your way.
